A brand new eight part series, Harbour Lives starts on ITV1 on Friday 14 June and focuses on Poole. It features the lives of local characters in and around Poole.
Called Harbour Lives, the prime time programme presented by Ben Fogle was filmed over the summer in 2012 and explores different aspects of life in and around Europe’s largest natural harbour.
Describing Poole as ‘Britain’s answer to Monte Carlo', the programme features various sides to the town from Miami beach style apartments to the working Quayside, through the eyes of local people.
From fishing with Poole Quay’s popular Storm restaurateur/fisherman Pete Miles to exploring the work of Poole Harbour Commissioners controlling one of the UK’s busiest waterways, Ben explores the bustling life of Poole and its heritage as a trading port. Much of the town’s seafaring history is visible in the 18th Century merchant houses in the Old Town and contrasts with the Quay’s continental style café’s, restaurants and traditional pubs.
The programme also followed the Borough of Poole’s busy Beaches Team who look after the 500,000 people who visit the town’s 3.8miles of award winning sands including Sandbanks - Britain’s best beach which this year achieved its 26th Blue Flag, more than any other UK resort.
Bruce Grant-Braham, Chairman of the Poole Tourism Partnership, said: “This is a fantastic showcase for Poole, its harbour and wider Dorset area. Not only does it show what a wonderful location it is, full of natural beauty, history, wildlife and adventure it’s also given a number of local businesses the chance to profile the fantastic food and experiences they offer. This is a unique opportunity and we hope that off the back of the programme visitors will come and experience harbour life in Poole for themselves.”
