Oates
Looking for Oates connection in Dorset -
most likely Poole area. Suspect George Oates came to Carbonear, Newfoundland
1780 or prior. Wife Ann(ie), sons David, John, William. Very strong majority of
settlers in Carbonear at that time originated from Poole and surrounding areas.
David and John baptised in Newfoundland. John died in Longfleet (near Poole)
around 1850 - Newfoundland was indicated as his place of birth. Any information
on where to focus my search would be greatly appreciated . [ Tracy Oates

Oxford
William Oxford was born in Corfe Mullen in 1779. His son James was christened at St Jame's, Poole in 1802. They migrated to Bermondey, London. In 1933, my father Cecil Oxford returned to Poole to work and live.
My sister and I, and my family since were born here. My mother Beryl Law was born in 1909 at Branksome Lodge, County Gates. She was at the Victoria Home for Crippled Children in 1911 and then adopted by a family in London. I am looking for information as to William's two wives, both Eliza. Also to any information about my mothers birth and adoption. [ Kenneth Oxford]
