Crane
My family were builders in Longfleet Road
between 1880 and 1983 - W G Crane & Son. My great-grandfather, W. G. Crane
was a Weslyan Methodist, as well as a town Councillor. He was born in Lytchett
Matravers in 1851, the youngest son of William Hooper Crane ( a journeyman
carpenter and a founder of the Weslyan Chapel at Lytchett) and Fanny Ricketts.
William Hooper Crane was the youngest son of John Crane (1777-1829) and Mary
Hooper (1778-1827). John Crane was from a long line of tenant farmers in
central and west Dorset. If there is anyone who wishes to exchange info, I am

willingly do look ups on what I've done. Best wishes Pam (now in Yeovil,

My great grandfather founded a dairy in
Tatnam in 1898. It was called Tatnam Park Dairy and had a sign on the wall
stating its name, the year the business was established and G.Cross and Sons
written beneath it. I'm interested in my great grandfathers own history; where
did he come from? what was his standing in the community? I'm told he was
offered Sandbanks to purchase but he declined. Also, my grandfather Harold (who
went on to run the business) had two brothers who died and I would like to know
a bit more about them and the circumstances regarding their deaths. My father,
Eric, sadly passed away in 1994, he had a sister (my aunty who still resides in
