Custom House
The Custom House flaunts itself as a picturesque Georgian building with a regal sweeping staircase set amidst the serenity of Poole quay and the adjacent harbour side.
The building, originally known as the Customs and Excise building, was built in 1756, caught fire in 1813 and was reconstructed as we see it today. After fulfilling the buildings duty as the original Customs and Excise building, proprietor Mark Heffer purchased the derelict landmark and transformed it into a dynamic café bar and a la carte restaurant.
The buildings historical past attracts tourists from near and far to admire the grandeur that it portrays to this day. In addition to the flocking tourism generated through the building for its past, the Custom House has managed to attain a fantastic reputation in the years leading up to its present. The building is split into three floors:
The top floor “attic” is used in conjunction with large wedding parties or for smaller sit down wedding breakfasts, as a function room ( canapé, buffet style approx 50 people) as well as for the ultimate private dining experience ( primarily 15 to 30 guests sit down)
The middle floor , commonly referred to as “Maison” restaurant, is where all the a la carte dining takes place. This first floor restaurant indulges our patrons in panoramic views both to the east “Brownsea island” and to the west in order to achieve the ideal sunset.
The menu is comprised of modern English/ French cuisine specialising in both seafood and meat dishes with the essential vegetarian options on offer too.
All of our cuisine is locally sourced with the furtherest being Hampshire. All of our beef is approved by the : SCFF Beef and lamb producers Club
Unlike most other restaurants in the area, Maison is open for Custom 7 days a week, but we do recommend prior booking especially for weekend dining. Our restaurant also caters for corporate functions, business lunches and the ideal intimate wedding breakfast/ reception.
